COVID-19 / IT Resources for working remotely

In response to COVID-19, the President has announced The College of New Jersey is adopting practices of social distance and preparing for remote work options. The Information Technology Department is providing this fact sheet to ensure you have access to the necessary campus resources.

Things to do to prepare for working remotely:

  • Move any files you have on your local hard drive to Google Drive, or TCNJ Network Drives (R/H Drive)
  • Remember to bring your laptop charger and any devices that you may need while you are home
  • Setup Duo multi-factor authentication before you leave the campus.
  • Try out Google Meet and Google Chat with your coworkers
  • Test any applications you may need to use remotely
  • TCNJ VPN may be needed to connect to some services remotely, like accessing TCNJ Network Drives. If you anticipate needing to use VPN make sure you have installed and tested the VPN client.

Zoom is a multi-platform web conferencing service that TCNJ now provides for free to staff, faculty, and students.

Zoom allows you to schedule meetings and send out calendar invites with information on how your meeting attendees can join in via their computer, phone, or mobile app.

Before getting started with Zoom, go to tcnj.zoom.com, click “Sign In,” and then log in using your TCNJ credentials to activate your Zoom account.

Duo Mobile

TCNJ uses Duo for mutli-factor authentication (MFA) for access to systems like VPN, Virtual Lab, etc. Setup Duo using the Duo Device manager website https://ddm.tcnj.edu Additional information can be found on the Help Desk website. Duo Multifactor Authentication

TCNJ Virtual Lab

The Virtual Lab portal allows TCNJ faulty, staff, and students to access computer lab applications, network drives, and file, from anywhere, anytime, on any device. Google Meet

Google Chat

Hangouts Chat makes it easy for teams to be able to get their work done in one place. From direct messages to group conversations, Chat helps teams collaborate easily and efficiently. With dedicated, virtual rooms to house projects over time — plus threaded conversations — Chat makes it simple to track progress and follow up tasks.

Google Drive

Google Drive gives you the ability to save and share files independent of the campus network. Save/move your files on network or local drives to Google Drive for easy access and sharing.

VPN

There are some systems that require direct access to our campus network (i.e. R/H Drives, EMS, etc). TCNJ provides VPN access to connect to these systems remotely. Connecting to TCNJ VPN requires Duo authentication. Download the TCNJ VPN client at https://vpn.tcnj.edu additional information about VPN can be found on the Help Desk website. FAQ

How do I access my voicemail from off-campus?

Call 609-771-2222. When the announcer starts talking, immediately press the # key.  If she completes her announcement before you press #, you need to hang-up and try again. Once you successfully press #, you will be prompted for your extension/mailbox number and then your voicemail password (press # after you enter your password, but not after you enter your extension).

How do I set my out-of-office greeting?

From on-campus, simply access your voicemail and press 3 (phone manager functions) then press 6 (record out of office greeting). From off-campus call 609-771-2222. When the announcer starts talking, immediately press the # key. If she completes her announcement before you press #, you need to hang-up and try again. Once you successfully press #, you will be prompted for your extension and then your voicemail password (press # after you enter your password, but not after you enter your extension). Once you’ve accessed the voicemail system menu, press 3 (phone manager functions) then press 6 (record out of office greeting).

To disable your out-of-office greeting use the instructions above to access your voicemail again. It will notify you that you have an out-of-office message set. Press 4 to disable it or press 5 to keep it active.
